BRIAN MARTIN
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Brian Martin has an extensive background as a Chief Executive of international companies in Asia, first with the American multi-national, Levi Strauss, and then with the German multi-national, Triumph International. He has over 25 years of extensive business experience in Japan and Asia.
In 1989, Brian Martin founded IAS Learning Group Ltd, an international business consultancy and leadership and |
communication training company, which is based in Auckland, New Zealand with offices in Tokyo, Japan, and Shanghai, China. The consultancy has undertaken assignments for companies in Japan, China, Asia, Australia, North America and New Zealand, including working with Johnson & Johnson KK Japan, Walt Disney Enterprises, Japan, Leo Burnett Company Limited, Japan and Amway Japan Limited.
Brian Martin was based in Tokyo for thirteen years where he achieved singular success as a ‘turn-around’ leader of two significant multi-national groups. As the President of Levi Strauss Ltd Japan he achieved a turn-around from a substantial loss to a profit position. For four years Brian Martin was the Levi Strauss Asia Area Chief Executive based in Hong Kong.
After becoming Representative Managing Director and Chief Executive of the German multi-national corporation, Triumph International (Japan) Limited, Brian Martin repeated a successful turn-around. Triumph International is the world's largest women's lingerie company, operating in 65 countries, with Japan now the biggest operation in the Triumph world.
While Chief Executive with Triumph International, Brian Martin was the first non-Japanese to be appointed to the industry organization that advised the Japanese Government on industry-related matters.
Born and educated in England, where he attended Naval Officer’s College H.M.S. Worcester, Brian Martin now lives in Japan and New Zealand where he achieved early business success as the founding Managing Director of Levi Strauss (New Zealand) Limited, before his appointment to Japan.
He is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management and a member of the executive of the Japan/New Zealand Business Council. Brian was selected as an honored member of International Who’s Who of Professionals in 1998. Brian is a senior member of the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD). In 2001, he received the 21st Century award for achievement in recognition of outstanding achievements in the field of business. He is also a guest lecturer on management and leadership topics.
He is the author of the book “Who’s In Charge of Your Life?”, which has also been published in Japanese.
He is actively involved in funding and developing leadership programmes for teenagers. He has a strong belief that “the children are our future”.
Brian is a member of the Advisory Committee for the Business Faculty of the Auckland University of Technology. |
