Through the Young Adult Leadership Program, IAS has given over 3000 scholarships to teenagers.

The program assists them to create a Dream for their life, proved them with knowledge and skills to realize their aspirations, and to give them self confidence.

Brian Martin believes “the Children are our future.  The thoughts we think create our reality.  If the young people have bright positive thoughts about their future, then That will be the world they will create.

A clear example of the importance of children for IAS can be these words from Brian Martin:
“I am special” children project FunShops help students to look up.

“In February 2002, we were able to accomplish one of my personal dreams, in that we were able to give free one-day programmes for a total of 350 teenagers from schools in Auckland. It exceeded our wildest aspirations in what these young people were able to absorb and achieve.
The “Funshop” was developed in partnership with groups of students from several schools rather than the programme being developed from what we (being adults) felt would be of value. The students were asked for their input on what was important for them in their lives. Areas such as communication with parents, teachers and the community, self-confidence, and relationships were high on the list.

IAS staff and 24 voluunteer coaches from amongst our clients, and people who had heard about our “I am special” children project, supported the students. Additionally, 35 young teenagers have coaches for a one-year period, which is the commitment our coaches have given to them. This is no small commitment, and we sincerely thank them for their time, energy and commitment to the young people of New Zealand.

The initial feedback from the schools has been extremely positive with the following comments made by Principals from the schools. “They found it stimulating, rewarding and challenging, and without doubt it had a positive influence over their belief in themselves and what they can achieve”. “The stimulus, knowledge and motivation they gained from the day was exceptional and they have spoken to me about the experience with great enthusiasm”. “Students aged 15-18 do not always have a clear vision of where they want to be in the next few years. Providing an opportunity for them to think about such issues is a wonderful gift for the yourth of our country”.

The demand for further Programmes from the schools, parents and other interested parties has been so great, we have developed a range of packages for corporate organizations to sponsor similar programmes for their local community or families of their employees. Details of the corporate branded packages and options are available by calling IAS.
On a personal note, my own special thanks to Steven Rapana, now a 16 year old man who I met a year and a half ago, who has become my friend and has been my inspiration for creating these “I am special” children programmes”
